Google isnt giving up anytime soon.
I haven't quite realised that this was the case until I looked at the data, but the last 6 months were pretty much a competition between OpenAI and Google, particularly intensifying in the last 2 months.
This data doesn't even reflect the full extent of it - reasoning models, realtime interaction, multi-modality - both OpenAI and Google have released some great capabilities in this space.
There's probably more good stuff to come shortly - rumoured GPT-4.5 before the end of OpenAI's 12 days of releases and Gemini Pro 2.0, probably in January.
