To be fair, I think the lines CAN get blurred. They're all "automating" tasks for improved efficiency and accuracy. However, there are clear differences that make AI agents next-level.

Automation executes predefined, rule-based tasks. AI workflows call on LLMs like GPT via API. AI agents can adapt autonomously.

This means AI agents can get better over time. They can learn continuously to improve results. They can achieve objectives without human input.

Do businesses need them? If you're handling thousands or millions of... Sales calls, customer interactions, or support tickets. Yes, it could make sense for your company to implement AI agents.

However, most early-stage or growing startups probably don't. What you need is good old automation to improve efficiency.

But also, make sure you've got: ✔ Product-market fit ✔ The right messaging ✔ An effective GTM motion ✔ Proven sales tactics & playbooks aka all of the business fundamentals

Then, you can scale with automation and, eventually, AI agents.
