This is the story at SalesForce
While some companies have tapped the brakes on AI, Salesforce is flooring it. CEO Marc Benioff recently claimed that 30–50% of Salesforce’s work is now done by AI. That’s a staggering shift in such a short period time.
But here’s the fine print: Salesforce also laid off 1,000 employees earlier this year… and plans to hire 1,000 new ones focused on selling its AI platform, Agentforce. In other words, it’s replacing humans with AI—then hiring humans to convince others to do the same.
It’s not just Salesforce. Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Bumble Inc., Dropbox… all are investing heavily in AI and quietly trimming their workforces along the way. According to Layoffs.fyi, 63,000+ tech workers have already been laid off in 2025—and it’s only July.
Let’s not sugarcoat it: The promise of AI isn’t just “productivity” or “innovation.” It’s also efficiency at the cost of human jobs. Yes, some will “move on to higher-value work.” But many won’t move on at all—they’ll simply be moved out.
