China just launched the world’s first AI Agent Hospital, run by 42 AI doctors.

Developed by Tsinghua University's Institute for AI Industry Research (AIR), this fully virtual hospital spans 21 departments, from cardiology to neurology.

These aren’t just chatbots.

They’re agentic AI systems capable of autonomous diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up; working with AI-generated patients in a closed-loop environment.

The “Agent Hospital” concept was introduced in a Tsinghua AIR paper back in May 2024.

As of May 2025, public pilots are getting underway, with initial operations now launched at real hospitals, including Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital.
