This video shows a $200/month AI model getting outperformed by a free Chinese video model (Hunyuan).
Here is a lowlight recap:
— Not available in Europe
— Sora went down multiple times on launch
— Many people are saying roughly only 1 in 10 videos turn out good
— $200/month price point
— Sam Altman admitted they "significantly underestimated demand for Sora"
I've seen some theories circulating online; some people think that American models are tied down by copyright lawyers, which Chinese companies don't have to worry about.
This means the Chinese models have WAY more data at their disposal to train their models on.
Regardless, we waited over a year for this release and I personally expected more.
Despite this, some of the examples I've seen online are amazing. I just think the model has a long way to go.
