The Art Basel & UBS Global hashtag#ArtMarket Report 2025, written by Dr. Clare McAndrew of Arts Economics, gives a full overview of how the art market performed in 2024.

Even though total hashtag#sales dropped by 12% to $57.5 billion, the number of hashtag#artworks sold actually went up by 3%, reaching 40.5 million transactions. This rise was driven by more activity in lower-priced artworks, showing that the hashtag#market is becoming broader and more open to different buyers.

Sales through dealers fell by 6%, while auction sales dropped more sharply—down 25%—mainly due to fewer high-end sales. The 🇺🇸 hashtag#UnitedStates remained the top art market with 43% of total sales, followed by the 🇬🇧 hashtag#UK at 18% and 🇨🇳 hashtag#China at 15%.

The report shows the art market is adapting well during uncertain economic times, with more young and new collectors entering the scene and a clear move towards more affordable artworks.
