IBM conducted a survey where they asked 1,063 Enterprise AI Developers, to uncover the hurdles they face when working with generative AI.

Here’s what they found:

🔹 Generative AI skill gaps: ➜ Only 24% of developers view themselves as experts — even though they’re on the front lines of adoption.

🔹 Standardization struggles: ➜ One-third said the lack of standardized AI development processes is a top challenge.

🔹 Tool complexity: ➜ 72% of developers juggle 5-15 tools per project, but the most critical tool qualities: Performance, Flexibility, Ease of Use, and Integration — are also the hardest to find.

🔹 Learning curve woes: ➜ Only 33% of developers are willing to spend more than two hours learning a new AI tool.

🔹 AI agents and coding assistants dominate: ➜ 99% are exploring or building AI agents. ➜ 99% are using coding assistants, saving 1-2 hours daily for 41% of developers.

The lesson?

Developers crave simplicity. Tools that are easy to master and enhance productivity are the future.
