IBM conducted a survey where they asked 1,063 Enterprise AI Developers, to uncover the hurdles they face when working with generative AI.

Hereโ€™s what they found:

๐Ÿ”น Generative AI skill gaps: โžœ Only 24% of developers view themselves as experts โ€” even though theyโ€™re on the front lines of adoption.

๐Ÿ”น Standardization struggles: โžœ One-third said the lack of standardized AI development processes is a top challenge.

๐Ÿ”น Tool complexity: โžœ 72% of developers juggle 5-15 tools per project, but the most critical tool qualities: Performance, Flexibility, Ease of Use, and Integration โ€” are also the hardest to find.

๐Ÿ”น Learning curve woes: โžœ Only 33% of developers are willing to spend more than two hours learning a new AI tool.

๐Ÿ”น AI agents and coding assistants dominate: โžœ 99% are exploring or building AI agents. โžœ 99% are using coding assistants, saving 1-2 hours daily for 41% of developers.

The lesson?

Developers crave simplicity. Tools that are easy to master and enhance productivity are the future.
